The Harley Fox project

May 3, 2010

The Harley Fox project has started. The well driller is currently drilling for water. The excavator is ready to excavate the building site and Snowbird Homes and Land (http://www.snowbirdhomesandland.com/) will be putting in footings and foundation walls next week. The start up, of course, depends on the weather! And wouldn’t you know…we have snow!  The cabin design is a 35-foot by 35-foot structure with an open floor plan. The exterior of the cabin will have “Appalachian” log cabin siding, a hip roof and expansive deck to watch the magnificent sunsets from the top of the ridge! I will have an artist rendering soon.

“OFF GRID” living…The Fox project will be solar powered with an OHM Station (http:www.ohmstation.com/powerhouse.htm). Snowbird Homes and Land is a distributor for Independent Energy Systems.

The Fox project is located in a very rural ranch area of eastern Montana. This location has abundant wildlife and very few people. It is also several miles from power. A solution for having power during construction (without a noisy generator) was to utilize the portability of the Power Station immediately and then anchoring it to concrete footings for a permanent location once the cabin is complete. The generator will be vapor run so that it can easily be connected to the propane line supplying the cabin. The generator is the back-up system.
