Fishing the Elusive Walleye in Wyoming

Fishing the Elusive Walleye in Wyoming

Author: Daniel Eggertsen

Wyoming walleye are elusive creatures that like to hid out in any rock or sandy bottom water surface. Colder water temperatures are preferred but they tolerate the warmer waters that summer and fall bring. Anglers chase after this creature mainly for its presentation on the dinner table.

Wyoming Land For Sale

Walleye are thought of as the most tasteful fresh water fish around. The white, flaky meat that comes from walleye provides for some of the best post fishing expedition meals an angler could ask for. Just as anglers are not picky about how their walleye is served, walleye are not picky about what goes in its mouth.

A good rule of thumb is that if it moves, the walleye are interested in eating it. Deeper water levels provide the perfect opportunities to strike on unsuspecting prey. They can jump in and snatch the food up virtually undetected.

During the warmth of the summer months, walleye tend to reside closer to the water surface. Ideal fishing times are sundown to midnight.

One of the greatest things about walleye fishing in Wyoming is all the natural lakes and reservoirs available. Overall, Wyoming offers up roughly 300,000 acres of water that comprise 4,200 lakes in the state. Add to this an additional 27,000 miles of rivers and it is easy to see why Wyoming ranks as a walleye hot spot.

Other walleye hot spots in Wyoming is going to be anywhere there is suitable vegetation available. This is going to be present in lakes and reservoirs. Here any weeded area is sure to be hiding a walleye or two. The bottom surface is mostly hard gravel.

Favorite walleye spots in Wyoming come from many of the major lakes. These include Bighorn Lake and Ocean Lake. Another hideout spot are the numerous water reservoirs found in Wyoming. Some include Boysen Reservoir, Glendo Reservoir, Grayrocks Reservoir and Seminole Reservoir.

Alaska Land For Sale

The record walleye catch was 17 pounds, 7 ounces and made in Boysen Reservoir. Seasons Change The key to successful walleye fishing in Wyoming waters is knowing where they are hiding during each season of the year. Start with springtime which finds walleyes heading for shallow waters. This signals the start of spawning season. Walleye are drawn from the lakes and reservoirs into feeder streams. Actually, any clean bottom surfaced area in shallow waters is suitable. Ideal bait choices are small crank baits, jigs and plastic worms.

Wyoming walleye seem to prefer the calmness of lakes and reservoirs to the fast paced action of rivers. Ideal spots in these bodies of water are large sand flat areas. As spawning season comes to a close in May, walleye will hang out in the open on top of the bottom surfaces. Males especially prefer sticking around the spawning sites to feed after others have moved on. Capitalize on this by creating the perfect rig setting. Use a live bait with a weight level set at distances suitable for the water clarity levels. For clear water, six to eight feet of space between the two should be sufficient. Murkier waters may call for at least 30 inches in distance points.

Once walleye have been located, go in with minnows or other small live bait. Let the jig fall below the water surface and linger for a moment or two before pulling it back up. This will catch the attention of the resting walleye.

The Best Montana Fly Fishing Rivers

The Best Montana Fly Fishing Rivers

There is no other place on Earth that is better known for its superb fly fishing than Montana. Montana boasts many fly fishing rivers that are quite simply a cut above the rest and an outing to one of these rivers is sure to bring in some trophy sized trout and create some memories that will last a lifetime.

The biggest problem is though, with so many great fly fishing rivers to choose from in Montana, how do you know which ones are the best? While you really cant go wrong in Montana when it comes to fly fishing there are three rivers in particular that are known by fly fishermen everywhere and are consistently getting rave reviews by those who are looking for keepers and those who simply enjoy to catch and release. These three magnificent Montana rivers are as follows:

1. The Flathead River: The Flathead River in Northwestern Montana is the first river that those in the know will bring up every time. Trout fishing in the South Fork of the Flathead is outstanding for two main reasons. The first is the fact that Montana officials have set limits to the fish that can be kept and many fly fishermen therefore struggle to find trout that are small enough to keep. The second reason for the great fly fishing is the fact that the river is somewhat remote and sometimes getting to that perfect spot is a job in itself. However, the fish are not as pressured as they are in other rivers and therefore are very susceptible to many different types of flies.

2. Clark Fork River: The Clark Fork River is located in Western Montana and is, in one word, exciting when it comes to fly fishing. Because the river is very long running at over 300 miles, the lower parts hold great habitats for fish to thrive in and thus provide a great place for fishermen to fish. Fly fishing and regular fishing will be greatly rewarded when a visit to the Clark Fork River is enjoyed.

3. Yellowstone River: The Yellowstone River is in Southwest Montana and originates of course in Yellowstone National Park. Because the Yellowstone River stretches such a big portion of Montanas landscape fly fishermen never really struggle with catching trout, but rather where they will begin and which trout they will count towards their limit. Add in the unbelievably beautiful scenery that surrounds the Yellowstone River and it is a true cant miss combination.

While there are many other rivers in the state of Montana that will produce many strikes to your fly fishing rig, these three will offer fish time and time again. All three also offer a good variety of fly fishing guides who can be hired by you or your group to ensure that you are led to the perfect trout hot spot.

No matter which one of the three Montana Rivers you decide to visit you are sure to get your fly fishing fix well taken care of. Just as other states are known for certain activities, when it comes to great fly fishing, there is nothing that compares to the wonderful rivers of Montana.

Renewable Energy Living Off the Grid

Renewable Energy Living Off the Grid

Author: David J Hughes

Considering the current state of the economy, it is no surprise that a significant amount of people are doing everything they can to cut costs and to save money. Traditional cost cutting methods include downsizing vehicles, cutting out vacations, buying cheaper food, eating out less and so forth. However, a growing number of people are turning to alternative and renewable energy to save money. Advances in technology have made renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power much more efficient, affordable and viable for the average person. In some cases, people take using renewable energy to provide the electricity to their homes to the next step, disconnecting from their local electrical service and going entirely off the grid. Living off the grid is not a step to be taken impulsively or rashly, but rather one to be well thought out and planned for. If one lives in the country and has the space and ability to install a very large wind generator, then going off the grid on wind power could work. However, living off the grid on solar power is a much more realistic and safe route to take. Modern solar panels are very efficient and can now provide significant amounts of power even on a cloudy day. Living off the grid on solar power is possible with discipline and the correct preparation. Converting to a tankless hot water heater is an important preparation to going off the grid. Heating water with an electric or even a gas hot water heater is very expensive. Tankless heaters are dramatically more efficient and reduce the electric load. Another important preparation for living off the grid is to get set up to dry clothes on a clothes line to avoid using the clothes dryer. The dryer uses a huge amount of electricity to get the clothes dry. This is easy to do outdoors in the summer, and there are many types of drying wracks available to dry the clothes on indoors in the winter. Yet another preparation to living off the grid is to replace all the light bulbs in the house with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. Lastly, one should make every effort to make the house airtight, so heat and cold are retained and do not leak out or in the house due to old inefficient window, unsealed doors, and improperly insulated walls. Make sure there is good weather stripping around all doors and windows and make sure there is an efficient programable thermostat installed. Living off the grid with solar power is certainly possible, but it requires some important preparations to make sure that the house is as energy efficient as possible since there is no backup source of power once the solar cells have been depleted between charges. The preparation and installation of the system can be expensive initially, but living off the grid saves so much money in electrical bills that these costs are often recovered withing the first two years of being off the grid.

UPDATE ON SARPY CREEK CABIN 5/17/10

UPDATE ON SARPY CREEK CABIN 5/17/10…

We had quite an adventure last week getting started on the project! The last couple of weeks have been winter like in Montana. We had snow mixed with rain, which meant a lot of mud and delays. We also had a truck break down hauling supplies to the site…it was my truck! Fortunately our excavator came to the rescue!

We were carrying a load of ICF forms, which we are using for the foundation. These are insulated concrete forms that go up like Lego’s and form the foundation walls. The end result is a double insulated foundation wall. We also had form boards for the footings and rebar, tools etc. Anyway our truck bite the dust about 5 miles from the property. Good thing for us that Rich Woolich (our excavation expert) found us and knew the rancher where the truck broke down. What a great neighbor we meet! Dave Reeding (the rancher) hooked up the trailer to his pick up and we all headed up the hill to deliver the materials! Believe it or not Rich drove us to town, (40 miles away) for a motel room and Dave helped us tow the truck back to Billings for repair the next day! The best part was getting to know these guys and gettin’ the scoop on the fishing and hunting in the area. Jason and I plan to check out the fishing on the Big Horn River next time we go out there to work?!

We did get good news on the well…hit water at 470 feet and should get excellent results once the casing is put in the hole. Looks like the well driller hit the mother load so we should have over 10 gpm. Of course the building site is one of the highest points on the ranch so we expected it to be deep.

The foundation hole is excavated now so soon we will be pouring the foundation

I did stay at the cabin we have for sale at Sarpy. Block – 41 has demanding views and has fingers with deep ravines. One can view a lot of deer feeding in the meadows on top of the ravines. I had some nice walks along the ridge tops through the meadows. This is
excellent property for hunting on one’s own land.

Using Survival Seeds

Why Use Survival Seeds to Grow Vegetables in Your Garden?

Author: Jane Thomas

Main difference between non-hybrid and hybrid seeds is that you can collect the seeds from non-hybrid crops and use them for future planting, while hybrid seeds produce sterile vegetables that cannot reproduce from seeds. This is the reason why non-hybrid or open pollinated seeds are always used for survival seeds in survival seed bank kits.If you are planning to grow vegetables and plant a garden for a food supply, you should use only survival seeds, non hybrid and open pollinated seeds. By using survival seeds, a large portion of the food for you and your family can come from your garden.

 Montana Survival Land For Sale

Another benefit of using non hybrid survival seeds is saving money: you will be able to collect the seeds from the vegetables you have grown, and you won't need to by seeds the following year!Survival Seeds Facts:-    Survival seeds are all non hybrid and/or open pollinated varieties-    You buy survival seeds only once-    You will save money by using survival seeds for planting vegetables and then collecting seeds from the  vegetables you have grown-    Saving seeds from vegetables is an easy task anyone can master-    Vegetables from non hybrid seeds have better taste, color and texture then the ones grown from hybrid seeds (bought at the supermarket)-

 Wyoming Hunting Land For Sale

Survival seed bank can provide generations of vegetables if survival seeds are collected from the vegetablesSurvival seeds are not just ordinary garden seeds. These seeds could be your safety and protection against future food crises, climate disasters like floods or winds, or a solution to put food on the table in economic break downs. Unfortunately, on today's market, majority of fruits and vegetables we can buy are non-organic or hybrid origin. Hybrid vegetables have better „shelf life“ (last longer in the supermarkets) but don't taste as good as home grown vegetables do.

Alaska Off The Grid Land For Sale

By using non hybrid survival seeds to grow your own vegetables supply, you can control the quality of food you and your family are eating every day.At the same time, survival seeds make a readiness and precaution plan for the unknown future and a safe judgment which shows that we care about the food we eat today!

You can specify your system as an inter-tie System:

Click Her For Montana Off-Grid Land For Sale

The inverter output is wired directly into your panel. It is a circuit just like your other circuits except it supplies electricity instead of using it! This system does not provide back-up power.
An inter-tie system will reduce your electric bill by allowing you to sell electricity back to the utility. When the sun is shining, your meter will turn backward if you making more electricity than you are using.

There is no change in the electricity coming into your house. The only change is that your utility bill will decrease. The inter-tie system is extremely simple. It consists of a Powerhouse with AT LEAST 1000 Watts of solar panels, and an inter-tie inverter like the 2500 watt Xantrex pictured here.

The Inter-Tie Powerhouse is designed to meet NEC code. Local codes vary from area to area. We work with your local electrician to meet your local authorities’ requirements.

The Harley Fox project

May 3, 2010

The Harley Fox project has started. The well driller is currently drilling for water. The excavator is ready to excavate the building site and Snowbird Homes and Land (http://www.snowbirdhomesandland.com/) will be putting in footings and foundation walls next week. The start up, of course, depends on the weather! And wouldn’t you know…we have snow!  The cabin design is a 35-foot by 35-foot structure with an open floor plan. The exterior of the cabin will have “Appalachian” log cabin siding, a hip roof and expansive deck to watch the magnificent sunsets from the top of the ridge! I will have an artist rendering soon.

“OFF GRID” living…The Fox project will be solar powered with an OHM Station (http:www.ohmstation.com/powerhouse.htm). Snowbird Homes and Land is a distributor for Independent Energy Systems.

The Fox project is located in a very rural ranch area of eastern Montana. This location has abundant wildlife and very few people. It is also several miles from power. A solution for having power during construction (without a noisy generator) was to utilize the portability of the Power Station immediately and then anchoring it to concrete footings for a permanent location once the cabin is complete. The generator will be vapor run so that it can easily be connected to the propane line supplying the cabin. The generator is the back-up system.

2012 Explained
Thousand's of people around the globe are preparing for December 21st, 2012. In the US survivalist are buying cheap land parcels in Montana and Wyoming, where they will spend the weeks and months leading up to December 21st, 2012 constructing survival retreats.

In some cases they are organizing to build 12/21/2012 survival communities. European 2012 believers are buying cheap land in the highlands of Ethiopia, Madagascar & the High mountains of Turkey for the preparation of 2012. In some cases these off-grid community's are investing in Bomb/Fallout Shelters with nuclear, biological and chemical filtering systems.

But why all the buzz about 2012? How did this worldwide phenomenon begin and what is the history behind it?

Empower Yourself By Going Solar

Empower Yourself By Going Solar

Author: Tina Metcalf

You can take advantage of alternative energy - and brand yourself environmentally friendly - by signing up with your local utility if you live in Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico and Washington.

Click here for Montana Land Fort Sale

There, alternative energy mandates allow utility customers to sign up to buy "green" energy from wind, solar, geothermal and even hydropower installations. For a few cents more than the cost of conventional energy sources like coal, natural gas and oil, customers can purchase alternative energy.

Of course, there is no way of knowing for certain that you're actually buying kilowatt hours from solar, for example, but you have the comfort of knowing that your few extra pennies will help maintain and expand green power options.Elsewhere in the country, even though green power isn't a mandate, utilities do sponsor green energy programs, and you can participate in these by simply calling, or e-mailing, your provider. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory, or NREL, has ranked nationwide utilities in two categories, sales and customer participation. In the first category, the top utilities offering green power programs are: Austin Energy (Texas), Portland General Electric (Oregon), PacifiCorp (California) and Xcel Energy (Colorado, Minn.). In the second category, the top-ranked utilities are: City of Palo Alto (Calif.) Utilities, Lenox (Iowa) Municipal Utilities, Montezuma (Iowa) Municipal Light & Power, Portland General Electric, and Sacramento (Calif.) Municipal Utility District.Of course, if your area utility doesn't offer green power, and state and federal tax incentives (like the Clean Energy Tax Stimulus Act of 2008) aren't enough to make a your own personal rooftop solar program affordable, you can sign up with One Block Off the Grid, or 1BOG, whose volume pricing can reduce upfront solar installation costs by up to half. You can participate if you own your own home and are the client-of-record on the utility bill.

You will have to commit to certain energy-saving measures, such as using compact fluorescent bulbs and using the dishwasher at night, but the solar bargaining collective, which started in San Francisco and now networks 20 cities, assures customers it can deliver a solar system for about $6,000 for a two-kilowatt array.1BOG now operates in the following cities: Aspen, CO; Austin, TX; Bergen County, NJ; Berkeley, CA; Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; New Orleans, LA; Miami, FL; Oakland, CA; Portland, OR; Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; San Jose, CA; Seattle, WA; Washington, DC.With the number of utilities and solar power companies participating in green energy programs, many of them incorporating solar or using solar as an exclusive platform, there is no longer any excuse for not going green. It's a shame to waste a perfectly good sun.

Getting Paid to Live in Alaska, Plus...

Things to Love About Living in Alaska
- Did you know they pay residents to live in Alaska? It’s a little thing called the "Permanent Fund Dividend". Each year the state of Alaska pays every Alaskan resident (man, woman, and child) a cut of the revenue generated from a fund built with money from oil taxes. Around October of every year, the interest earned from the fund pays each resident anywhere between 1 to 3 grand a year, depending on how well the market does. Just in time for some good Christmas shopping. The 2008 dividend paid was $3,269. So if you and your spouse had 3 children you would have each earned $3,269 totaling $16,345. Not a bad bonus for a family of five.

Click Her For Alaska Land For Sale
- Not only that, there’s no sales tax and no income tax in Alaska. Yeah. Starting to sound like a good place to live?
- Free Salmon...residents can "dip net" 25 salmon per year and 10 flounder, this is separate from and in addition to rod and reel limits. Here, you can eat as much salmon as you can catch in the summer, and there is always a friend with crab pots who will invite you over for a feed from time to time. And don't even get me started on the halibut!

- The Northern Lights. These are the most magical mystical things you will ever experience. And you really do need to experience them. Nothing I can say would even remotely give them justice.
- Outdoors activities. If you like to camp, backpack, hike, bike, kayak, mountain climb, snowboard, fish, hunt, snowmobile, etc. There is no better place to be.
- There are no cockroaches, termites, killer bees or snakes.
- It almost never gets too hot. In this age of global warming, no one here even needs to own an air conditioner.
- There is plenty of water for the entire state. No forced water conservation or water disputes. Plus, it's really clean and tastey.
- It sounds horrible I know, but sometimes the safety of being so far away from all the major cities that might be targets for terrorist attacks is a plus.

Are there ample job opportunities?

Alaska Land For Sale Financing Available

There are lots of jobs depending on where you live and what kinds of skills you have. In the Anchorage area there are lots of jobs because it's the largest city in the state and also because Anchorage is positioned well between Asia, Europe, and the lower 48, in terms of shipping and manufacturing. The main industry is oil, after that is tourism, and then fishing. There are plenty of small fishing towns in Alaska like Homer that also makes their living off tourism, art, and entertainment.

Moose Hunting In Alaska

Moose Hunting In Alaska - Alaska Hunting Seasons, Guides And Licenses

Alaska Hunting Land For Sale

Author: Mark B. Allen

Nothing quite rivals the site of a moose in the wild, huge and gangly, head often raised over its forage, strings of vegetation hanging from massive antlers. The moose is the most sought after big game animal in Alaska. Over 7,000 are taken each year from a population of approximately 175,000.

Licenses

Licenses, big game tags, duck stamps and hunting permits are available from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Wildlife Conservation and are obtainable online. Purchase ahead of time and bring them with you. Licenses are good from the date of purchase through December 31 of the license year. Big game tags are necessary for nonresidents if you plan to hunt brown/grizzly bear, black bear, bison, caribou, deer, elk, goat, moose, bull musk ox, sheep, wolf or wolverine.

Seasons

Alaska is divided up into 26 Game Management Units (GMUs). Each unit has separate regulations and sets its own hunting seasons. A map of these units and the regulations pertaining to them can be found on the web at http://Wildlife.Alaska.gov. Click on the GMU of interest and a document defining the seasons will open. A complete copy of the Alaska Hunting Regulations can also be downloaded at the ADF&G site.

Alaska moose season generally runs from as early as the 1st of September until as late as the 20th of September, depending on the hunting unit. Legal horn size varies between units, but has been for the most part a 50 inch spread or 4 brow tines. Check the regulations of the unit you are interested in hunting for more information.

Important Points

• Mature bulls can weight over 1500 lbs. A kill can yield 400 to 700 pounds of meat and 65 pounds of antlers to transport from the kill-site. Seasoned hunters recommend never taking a moose more than a mile from your vehicle.

• A properly sighted rifle of adequate caliber and a well-placed first shot from a good rest is the best way to avoid having to trail a wounded moose. A rifle capable of shooting a bullet of 150 grains or greater at 2500 fps or more is adequate for moose. A lung shot is the best shot for dropped a moose quickly.

• Some moose are migratory; some are permanent residents of an area. Any one area may have several sub-populations with varying migratory habits.

• Hunt very early or very late in the day.

• Moose have excellent sight and smell. Avoid being visible in silhouette, such as on a ridge. Avoid noisy clothing, such as jeans. Fleece clothing is quieter. Stay downwind.

• Successful hunting is knowing where bull moose will be in the fall season.

How To Find a Moose

Moose are found throughout Alaska, except on the Aleutian Islands. They prefer forested or shrubby habitats and generally avoid the openness of the tundra. They are most commonly found in southeastern or interior Alaska and their density can range from 1 moose per 30 square miles to 5 or more moose per square mile.

Their favorite habitats by season are:

Summer - commonly seen in open meadows and around water eating aquatic plants and drinking large amounts of water.

Fall - Diets change late august to early September to include woody browse of willow, aspen, poplar and birch. Migratory moose move to fall ranges for the rut.

Winter - remain in rut areas and feed on low shrubs early winter. Late winter, mountain moose move to valley bottoms and lowland burns where they forage on willows along rivers and creeks.

Spring - Diet shifts back to herbaceous plants and leaves. Migratory moose move to calving areas and summer ranges.

How To Scout for Moose

Scout in summer and hunt legal bulls on the opening day of the season.

Scout after the end of the fall season. Bull moose tend to stay near rutting areas for a month or two following the rut. Once you locate a fall concentration area, hunt there the next year as late in the legal season as possible.

Find and utilize fall migration routes. Rivers, creeks and low mountain passes are preferred routes.

Keep alert for rubbed trees. Early in September, Bull moose begin rubbing the velvet from their antlers. They continue to thrash trees in late September as a sign of dominance.

Watch for droppings. Summer droppings resemble cow patties; winter droppings are pelletized. Fall droppings are a combination of the two.

Hunting Techniques

Stand Hunting and Glassing - Select a panoramic view of a hillside. Don't scan with binoculars. Pick a spot, search it carefully, then move to a new area. Listen early and late for antler clashes, mating grunts or breaking branches.

Floating - Floating down rivers and creek in a canoe is the most pleasant way to hunt for moose. Plus, you have a method of getting the meat back without carrying it on your back.

Road and Trail Hunting - Cruising the highways with trucks or four wheelers. Mostly, an unsuccessful and expensive method. Park vehicles and hike in.

Calling Moose - The four basic sounds made with megaphones made from birch bark, cardboard or a milk jug.

• Antler scraping on trees and shrubs in early September
• Pre-rut bull "gluck" in early September
• Bull challenge, or "mu-wah" in mid-September
• Cow call, a nasal melodic whine, late in September

Cheyenne, Wyoming #2 Biggest Real Estate Price Gain in US

Home price forecast (1 year):* 4.7%
The city has attracted some new employers in recent years, giving the local economy a boost. Cheyenne's job market is also tied to the city's status as state capital, which has kept area unemployment below the national rate.
Cheyenne
Wyoming land for sale from under $575/Acre

Cheyenne was one of the few metro areas that recorded home price gains in the past three years, and population growth should help drive up home prices further. The number of city residents jumped by double digits during the 2000s and will probably do so again in the coming decade. That will provide a steady demand for housing, and prices are projected to grow by about 5.5% through 2012.

Having an Off-The-Grid Home - Is it Possible?

Author: Karen A. Jones

What does it take to have an off-the-grid home? Can you just install solar panels and then never have to deal with the local electric utility again? Think about it - you become energy independent, no more huge electric bills, no more huge electric rate increases. Is an off-the-grid home really possible? A lot of that depends upon where you live and how much time and money you are willing to commit to install and maintain your own home solar power system.

Alaska Land For Sale

The first thing to take into consideration when determining if you can live in an off-the-grid home is where you live. You need to find out the average number of hours of sunlight your area gets (search the web for peak sun hours). Remember, you only create solar power while the sun is shining on the solar panels. The lower number of hours of sunlight, the more solar panels (also known as PV, or photovoltaic, panel) are needed to satisfy your power needs. Also, you need physical area to mount the PV panels. Do you have ample area on your rooftop or open ground area that has open access to the sun (i.e. no trees, houses, etc that would block out sunlight)?

To live in an off-the-grid home also means that you have to store electricity in batteries in order for it to be available at night and during overcast days. You will need to buy and maintain enough deep-cycle batteries to store enough electricity to get you through one to three days of cloudy weather. You'll also need plenty of dedicated storage space for all those batteries. Keeping the batteries maintained is the largest part of maintenance for your off-the-grid home. The rest of your home solar power system is very low maintenance. You'll also have to plan in the expense of replacing the batteries periodically (unlike the PV panels, which are usually warrantied for 20 - 25 years).

With an off-the-grid home it is also beneficial to keep a backup generator just in case of a long stretch of cloudy weather or storm that lasts beyond your battery storage capacity. Generators typically use either gas or diesel fuel. But, if you want to stay "green" you'll probably want to use biodiesel.

So, yes it is possible to have an off-the-grid home, but it's not a simple or cheap project that can be done in a weekend or two. But the benefits to both the earth and your wallet are enormous. Let's say you had to spend $50,000 to install your home solar power system so you have an off-the-grid home. With the 30% federal tax credit on the solar panel installation, that brings the effective price to $35,000. Most states also have solar tax credit incentives, so you might be looking at anywhere from like $30,000 to $25,000. With the savings of a typical electric bill of $200/month, you would have payback of your system in 15 years. But the PV panels usually last for 20 - 25 years, so you'll have free electricity for 5 - 10 years, a savings of $12,000 to $24,000. And that's assuming electric prices don't increase over the next 20 years!

The Concept Behind Solar Panels

The Concept Behind Solar Panels

Author: John Mahoney

Solar panels are devices made to convert solar energy into either electricity or heat. While most think of it as new technology, the basic concept has already been in use since around a hundred years ago to heat water in homes. Declared by many as one of the alternatives to oil and coal power with the most potential, the use of solar panels has been steadily gaining ground as the technology advances further. The origins of solar panels date way back to the early 1839 when French physicist Antoine Cesar Bequerel came across the correlation of light and electricity through the photovoltaic effect in an experiment with an electrolytic cell made of two metal electrodes in an electrolyte solution. He observed that output increased when the cell was exposed to light.

Around forty-four years later, the first genuine solar panel was created by Charles Fritts. His invention was made by sheets of selenium coated with a thin layer of gold. From then on up to mid-20th century, many experimented with the idea of solar energy. During this time, a Baltimore inventor by the name of Clarence Kemp patented the first commercial solar water heater. Also, Albert Einstein wrote and published a thesis on the photoelectric effect and received a Nobel Prize in Physics for his research years later. Another contribution was made by a Carnegie Steel Company employee named William Baily who invented the very first solar collector by putting copper coils in an insulated box. Later on, while working for Bell Laboratories, American inventor Russell Ohl patented the first proper silicon solar cell in 1941. With this innovation, Bell Laboratories went on to produce the very first crystalline silicon solar panel thirteen years later. The original mass-production model's design had 4% efficiency in energy conversion. The technology was continually improved over the years, leading to solar panels with at least 6% efficiency.

The technology went on to be used for space missions. Space satellites were one of the first things to use solar panels in practice.

Wyoming Off The Grid Land For Sale

By this time, the US had already started to produce solar panels with 20% efficiency. Nowadays, Spectrolab and Emcore Photovoltaics lead the world in solar cell production, producing panels with 28% efficiency. Most solar panels are made out of pure silicon, which is a semi-conductor that is ideal for channeling energy. With impurities and foreign substances removed, the silicon serves as the ideal neutral platform for transmitting electrons. As silicon's natural state holds four electrons, it is to be understood that according to modern chemistry that it can handle four more. Once a silicon atom combines with another, they will share their electrons to form a stable molecule containing eight valence electrons and giving it a neutral charge. This concept is the basis for modern solar panels.

As an alternative source of energy, solar panels have pros and cons that come along with its implementation worldwide.

Alaska Vacant Land For Sale

It is clean and can be used at any place where there is adequate sunlight. However, that is also its drawback as you will need sunlight for it to create electricity. Also, it is still expensive as the technology as an independent power source has yet to become within reach of mainstream. However it may be; solar panels, along with other alternatives as wind turbines, hydrogen fuel cells, and so on, do have the potential to replace conventional fossil fuels as the main source of energy. As long as research and interest on the technology remains present, it is possible

Wyoming Walleye Fishing Hot Spots

Wyoming Walleye Fishing Hot Spots

Wyoming Walleye Fishing Hot Spots

Author: Daniel Eggertsen

Freshwater fishermen and women love a good challenge and walleye is one of the many challenges they can face if they choose to try their hand fishing in the state of Wyoming. Mysterious creatures, these type of fish loves to hide out in the sandy or rocky bottom of whatever body of water they happen to be in. They love the cold water, yet tolerate the warmer temperatures when summer and fall in the state set in. A tender, flaky, white meat fish, walleyes are supposedly the best tasting of all the fresh water fishes.

Walleyes, while being somewhat elusive, like to eat anything and everything that moves and catches its attention that won't eat them first. If they are living in the deeper water of Wyoming, they set themselves up as the hunter and get the unsuspecting hunted as it floats or swims by. They are quick enough to be virtually undetected unless its summer time when they seem to gravitate towards the waters surface. If you're looking for the perfect time to catch these tasty beauties then you want to go out between sundown and midnight.

Wyoming in and of itself is a beautiful state filled with plenty of places to go walleye fishing. Walleye fishing, in addition to some other species, is going to be extremely here and when attempting to define true hot spots which a few are listed at the bottom it's very easy to say that bodies of water throughout the state are walleye hot spots because almost every single one of them has a walleye or two in them. When you stop and look at the numbers, the state of Wyoming has right around 300,000 acres or water. That amount comprises 4,200 lakes. There is an additional 27,000 miles of rivers. If fishers cannot find a walleye in Wyoming, they may need to determine what they are doing wrong.

Alaska Vacant Land For Sale Click Here

Walleyes like anywhere there is vegetation, which makes lakes and reservoirs prime fishing spots. They hide in the weeds at the bottom in order to sneak up on their own food as its swimming past. They also like the calm waters of these areas instead of the consistent movement of the rivers. That's not to say fishers won't find them in the rivers because they will. Anyone trying to catch one stands a better chance in the calmer waters. Fishers will find their catch patrolling the larges sandy flat areas of these bodies of water.

Spawning season for Wyoming walleye is in May and this is when they change their habits a little bit. During the end of this time of year, male walleyes can be found closer to the surface. They are feeding after all of the other fish have moved on. Fishers can easily capitalize on this fact by using a live bait rig weighted for the appropriate water clarity and depth. Walleye will go for lines baited with small, live organisms or minnows. Once it catches their eye, all the fisherman needs to do is start reeling in the line.
